Part I: Preparing for your Photographs | Getting Ready

June 4, 2015

Wedding days can be hectic. We all know that. But they don’t have to be. There are plenty of things that you can do to ensure that you have a relaxing, leisurely day, starting with your bridal preparation. Here are a few tips that you may find useful as you plan your big day.

Tip #1: Gather your details. This is anything from your shoes, to your jewelry, to your invitation suite. If you set these items aside and have them ready to be photographed, your photographer is able to perform her job much more efficiently, thereby possibly allowing you time for any extra photos that you may have wanted “just in case.”

Tip #2: Tidy up. We know it’s a whirlwind. But your room doesn’t have to look that way. If you take five or ten minutes to put bags, shoes and clothes away in a closet or two, it will make a world of difference in your images. And it will allow your photographer more time to photograph what’s naturally happening, rather than focus on what’s going on in the background and/or how to avoid it, or actually have to clean it up. Trust me, your photos will thank you for it!

Tip #3: Look for window light. If you are booking a hotel room, try to select a room that has plenty of natural window light available. This will make a dynamic difference in the quality of your images. Natural window light can be used for soft, romantic portraits, or even for dramatic, powerful imagery. Either way, it is a must for your bridal prep photos.

Tip #4: Start your hair and makeup EARLY. Running late with your hair and makeup can do a number on your timeline. Talk about stress! But it is easily avoidable if you are conscious of the possibility that your hair may take longer than you predicted. It’s all about planning for the unexpected, which is, frankly, a good rule of thumb to follow throughout the course of your wedding day!

Hopefully these tips were helpful. Happy planning!
