I absolutely love the idea of having portraits taken in the comfort of your own space, and this family portrait at home in Rhode Island was relaxed, informal, and full of sweet moments and big smiles.
It’s always a privilege to photograph families—whether it’s for a special event, a major milestone in a child or family member’s life, or simply because you’ve waited far too long to finally have your family portrait taken. (Which, let’s be honest, happens a lot. Like… a lot, a lot.) In this case, though, this sweet family had plenty to celebrate: Mother’s Day, a second birthday, and a new home. Whew—that’s a lot!
My cousin Michael’s family is always such a treat to photograph. He and his wife Danielle have a couple of young boys (and the dogs are boys, too!), which I truly cannot relate to—this mom has adult girls. 😉 Little Luca was almost one at the time of this session and was nothing but smiles and joy in his mom’s arms. Danielle, by the way, is a saint. The amount of ongoing chaos that didn’t slow her down one bit was deeply impressive. I’m convinced it’s the boys’ endless energy that fuels it all—hahaha. Like I said, girl mom here… less chaos, more drama.
Two-year-old Dylan was understandably less interested in participating, but we still managed to sneak in a few adorable moments of that energetic little guy. While Danielle’s main intention for the session leaned toward a mommy-and-me focus, we wrapped things up with full family portraits—including dad Mike and cutie pie Mallory. And stay tuned, because this crew isn’t done growing just yet. A beautiful baby girl is set to join their family this spring!
At home family sessions like this one are such a meaningful way to slow things down and capture life exactly as it is—messy, joyful, chaotic, and full of love. Being welcomed into a family’s home and trusted to document these everyday milestones is something I never take lightly. These are the moments that quietly become the most cherished, and I’m so grateful to help preserve them in a way that feels relaxed, honest, and true.

If you’ve been thinking about scheduling a family session, I’d love to hear from you and start the conversation!
