Graduation portraits are a wonderful way to document such an incredible milestone in a college student’s life. Honestly, I think everyone should do them—and you should absolutely call me when you’re ready. 😂 This Sachuest Beach graduation portrait session with Brooke was one of my very favorites of last season. From her lively, fun, and whimsical personality to her completely uninhibited approach to the session, everything about it exuded freedom, playfulness, and joy.
I’ve known Brooke and her family for quite some time—they were next-door neighbors to my sister many years ago. Because of that, it felt especially meaningful to witness her accomplishments, most notably graduating from Rhode Island College with a degree in nursing. I knew Brooke when she was just a little girl, and now she’s an impressive college graduate stepping confidently into her next chapter.
To make the most of her graduation portrait session, Brooke’s mom, dad, boyfriend, and pup joined in on the fun. Her older sister lives in North Carolina, so she wasn’t able to make it—but we absolutely made the best of it. I always encourage college grads who live at home or nearby to include their families in their sessions. Is there a better reason to schedule portraits than celebrating such a huge achievement? I can’t think of one—other than, you know……life is short, so book the session.
Brooke’s session included some traditional elements—her cap and gown, along with her sashes and honor cords—but she also fully leaned into her playful side. She ran into the water, danced and twirled along the shoreline, posed with her puppy, and laughed at herself the entire time. (Not pictured: Brooke making truly ridiculous faces. Haha!) Her parents and boyfriend hopped into a few photos as well, turning this session into a real-time celebration of her life, her support system, and everything she’s accomplished.
Sessions like Brooke’s are exactly why graduation portraits hold such a special place in my heart. They’re not just photos—they’re a celebration of hard work, growth, and the people who show up along the way (sometimes with dogs). Her Sachuest Beach graduation portrait session was full of joy, movement, and personality, and it felt like the perfect way to mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next. Brooke has such a bright future ahead of her, and I’m so grateful I got to capture this moment before life really takes off.
