The Denza family might just be my most frequent returning clients — and I am here for it! Each summer, they vacation in Narragansett, and as their family grows with every visit, they make a point to schedule a session and mark another meaningful milestone together. Their family portrait session at Roger Wheeler Beach last summer was a perfect balance of classic, posed portraits sprinkled with natural, candid moments. If you ask me, that mix is the hallmark of a great family session — and exactly what I strive to create every time.
You may have noticed that many of my Narragansett beach sessions take place at Roger Wheeler, and there’s a good reason for that! Most importantly, the sun sets beautifully over the water there, which makes it ideal for sunset beach portraits — am I right? 😉 And even on cloudy evenings, the light stays soft and flattering (another win in my book!). The sun popped in and out during the Denza family’s session, giving us a lovely combination of gentle, diffused light along with a few golden, sun-kissed moments.
The Denza kids are always wonderfully well-behaved but still playful, cooperative, and free-spirited — another winning combination for family photos. (And I truly appreciate the cooperative part… that’s not always a given, haha.) We made the most of our time together and captured just about every family combination you could imagine. Toward the end of the session, I like to give kids a little more freedom and photograph them doing what comes naturally at the beach. For these little ones, that meant drawing in the wet sand — so cute!
Sessions like this are a reminder of why I love photographing families year after year. Watching kids grow, personalities shine, and relationships deepen is such a gift — and being invited back to document those moments never gets old. The Denza’s family portrait at Roger Wheeler Beach was relaxed, joyful, and full of genuine connection, exactly the kind of memories that deserve to be preserved.

If you’ve been meaning to schedule family portraits (and keep putting it off!), let’s make it happen.
