Most of my seniors ask me for recommendations when it comes to choosing a location for their portrait session. A park? The beach? Something a little more urban? I’m always happy to offer plenty of suggestions. But in Lyndsay’s case, her Newport, RI senior portrait session took place somewhere completely new to me — and honestly, I’m pretty sure it’s not open to just anyone.
Lyndsay attends St. George’s School in Newport, where she was recruited to play soccer, and academics aside, the campus is absolutely stunning. From ornate historic buildings to sprawling, impeccably manicured grounds, St. George’s truly impresses. And let’s not forget the daily bonus: a clear view of Newport’s Second Beach. Not a bad backdrop for school days, if you ask me.
We started Lyndsay’s session right on campus, heading to the sports field for some soccer-inspired portraits. As a talented athlete, it was important to her to incorporate that part of her high school experience into the session — and I love when seniors bring pieces of their story into their photos. From there, we wandered to a few spots around the school where the architecture quietly stole the show, adding character and visual interest to the images.
The final stop brought us to Second Beach, where we were greeted by… let’s call it an enthusiastically seaweed-covered shoreline. Not exactly ideal, but we leaned into what the beach did offer: soft, flattering light, textured rocks, and a gentle ocean breeze. And with Lyndsay’s bright smile, upbeat attitude, and easygoing personality, there was no chance a little seaweed was going to dampen this session.
Lyndsay was such a joy to photograph — confident, kind, and effortlessly herself throughout the entire session. From the soccer field to the shoreline, she brought so much positivity and ease that everything just flowed naturally (even with the seaweed making a guest appearance). Sessions like this are a reminder that senior portraits aren’t just about the location or the light — they’re about celebrating who someone is in this moment of their life, and Lyndsay did exactly that.
