Wedding Tips and Hints: Time is your BFF

April 23, 2013

“Time spent with your wedding photographer is never wasted.”  Lisa Frechette

Ok, I admit it…I slightly adjusted a Sigmund Freud quote to apply more relevantly to this blog post. Eh…no harm, no foul, right? (Btw, his quote was about cats. Cats. My quote definitely tops his, don’t you think?)

So you are a future bride, planning your wedding. You found the perfect everything: venue, cake, band, photographer. ;) And then it’s time to plan your day — from soup to nuts, start to finish, top to bottom. The timeline of your day will dictate how the entire event flows.  May I please, as a person/professional who has spent many countless hours at numerous weddings (both as a guest and a vendor), offer a bit of helpful advice? If you could see me, you would see me on my knees pleading…please, please, oh pretty please….please allot a generous amount of time for your photos. Did I say generous? I meant plentiful. Oh wait, that means the same thing.  I know, it seems like a simple concept suggested by a selfish photographer. But it’s not. The difference between rushing through your photos because you are pressed for time verses having the opportunity to explore new and fascinating locations with amazing light and brilliant textures will result in a difference in your photos that will leave you amazed. Or breathless. Or astounded. Or at the very least, thankful that you had the insight to make your photos of you and your honey a top priority. And I know this is said time and time again, but after all, what you have left after the celebration ends and the guest have gone home, and the flowers have wilted, and the three course meal is a mere memory…well, it’s your photos. Wouldn’t you prefer to feel unequivovally awed by your photos rather than left wishing you’d had more time to spare with your photographer before dashing into the ballroom to be introduced? While it’s decidedly up to you to create a timeline that will work for you on your wedding day, it is important to consult and collaborate with your vendors so that you are all working as a team. In the end, this will undoubtedly benefit everyone and ensure for a day that flows seamlessly and possibly without incident (dare I say?).

Here are a few examples of couples who put wedding photo time at the top of their list (Holla!), and as you can see, beautiful light, unique locations. BAM. Some things just can’t be denied. And btw, I want you to have killer photos just as much as you want to have those killer photos. Teamwork. Yup.
