Last July was filled with fun and playful seaside sessions, including this Roger Wheeler Beach family portrait. Mom Shay actually contacted me through a Facebook photography group page that I belong to! Her family was going to be in Rhode Island for a sports related occasion for her son, and she seized an opportunity to schedule a session with me!
Roger Wheeler Beach in Narragansett is my favorite beach for family portraits. The sun sets in a perfect location over the water. The rocks on the beach are a great way to add layers and dimension for seated portraits, especially if you have a larger group. And even if you don’t, I love the textural aspect of the rocks!
Shay and her family live in the middle of the country where there is no beach or coastline, so they were excited to be photographed here! After grabbing a few traditional “frame-worthy” images, I encouraged them to do their thing. They frolicked; they splashed in the water; they scoured the rock area for crabs; they played on the beach. As a native Rhode Islander, I can totally relate to all of that! I love the whimsy and energy of this session, and I hope you do too!
