Winter on the Rhode Island coast has a way of keeping you on your toes, and this winter engagement session in Point Judith RI got right to the point. My first introduction to the groom-to-be wasn’t a hello or a handshake — it was watching him walk out of the Atlantic Ocean, surfboard under his arm, dripping wet, like this was a totally normal way to start an engagement session. (To be fair, for him, maybe it was!) The wind was brisk, the air felt alive, and right away I knew this session was going to be something a little different — in the best way.
Once everyone was officially dry and slightly less windswept, we spent some time near the lighthouse keeping things easy and natural. The wind was a bit of a player in the scenario, so we did our best to let it work with us, not against us. Were we successful? I guess you can be the judge! After that, we carefully made our way down toward the rocky shoreline, picking our steps and embracing the adventure. The waves crashed, the wind did its thing (still), and somehow it all felt cozy anyway. Equal parts playful and meaningful, it was one of those sessions that reminds me why I love photographing couples who aren’t afraid to lean into who they are — even if that means starting the day with a surf session in January.
All in all, this winter engagement session in Point Judith RI felt like the perfect introduction to who Tyler and Joseph are together — kind, easygoing, and genuinely fun to be around. They didn’t flinch at the cold, didn’t rush the moments, and fully leaned into the winter weather like pros (or at least like people who know it’s worth it). Meeting Tyler and Joseph at their session made me even more excited for their wedding day. (Since I am woefully behind on blogging, their wedding day has passed but will be featured very soon!)Their wedding at a local horse farm was very special — and a little historic, too, as it was first wedding ever held there. Their day was thoughtful, personal, and full of heart, and I can’t wait to share that too!
Session location: Point Judith Lighthouse at Rose Nulman Park, Narragansett RI
