Summer in Rhode Island is hard to beat, with its scenic coastline, salty air, warm breezes, and the ocean never too far away—plus evenings that glow with hazy sunsets. It’s an atmosphere that’s especially appealing for families vacationing from out of town and often inspires them to document their time here. This family portrait in Narragansett was one such occasion for the Bowerman family. With a little one who had recently celebrated her first birthday, there felt like no better way to preserve their vacation memories than with a portrait session by the sea.
Back again at Roger Wheeler (you all know it’s my fave 😌), we made the most of everything the beach had to offer. From traditional portraits on the rocks to the kids playing in the sand and searching for shells, we captured a mix of classic family images and candid moments that felt true to who they are. I also loved the color palette the family chose—it gave off that effortless, casual, coastal vibe that always feels right here in Narragansett. Whenever I try to look effortless and breezy… welp, it doesn’t quite land 😂—but these guys absolutely nailed it and complemented the beach setting perfectly.
Sessions like this are a reminder that some of the best family memories happen in the in-between moments—bare feet in the sand, little hands collecting shells, and the simple joy of being together by the ocean. The Bowerman’s family portrait in Narragansett was relaxed, meaningful, and full of those small, fleeting moments that so often become the most treasured over time. These are the kinds of images that quietly tell a family’s story, one summer at a time.
