Sweet Clara made her grand entrance this April into one of the best families in the entire world — yes…mine. I may be slightly biased, but I stand by it. My incredible cousin Michael and his lovely, patient, calm, endlessly sweet wife Danielle (truly, a saint) welcomed their beautiful daughter with so much joy, and I had the honor of capturing her very first Rhode Island newborn portrait to mark the occasion..
Already parents to two boys, they were absolutely delighted to learn they were expecting a girl. And really – who wouldn’t be? (I say this with authority. Girls are a complete delight at every age. Always. No drama, no tears…ever. 😏)
In all seriousness, their excitement has been undeniable. Danielle has amassed roughly 50 headband bows for Clara – and she isn’t even a month old yet. That’s not just preparation, that’s enthusiasm.
There’s something truly special about photographing those early days – the tiny fingers and toes, the soft, scrunched up little bodies, the sweetest, sleepiest expressions. It’s an honor to capture such fleeting moments. As someone who firmly believes in making time for family portraits, starting from the very beginning is one of the most meaningful ways to preserve your story. Watching your children grow through these images is equal parts beautiful and bittersweet…..but that’s life, and it deserves to be documented.
There will be plenty of time for portraits at six months, one year, two years, and beyond. But for now, I hope they soak in every second of this extraordinary, momentary season. Congratulations Mike + Danielle!
